Non-judgmental psychotherapy
Our lives can sometimes be filled pleasure and wonder, but they can also be filled with turmoil and pain. Issues can arise that lead to anxiety, depression, or other symptoms that affect daily living. My desire is to not only help you live, but to thrive. If you find certain experiences challenging, be comforted there is hope. We’ll work together toward a path of healing that is creative, unique, and right for you.
I consider myself an ‘eclectic’ therapist, which means I take ideas and techniques from various therapeutic modalities and use what I believe will work best for the client. I borrow heavily from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) which is based on the concept that a full, rich, and meaningful life means accepting the broad range of emotions – from ‘good’ to ‘bad’ – rather than trying to eliminate them. Because feeling things is a central tenet of what makes us human. ACT also asks to play around in Creative Hopelessness – the space where we let go of an agenda of control and experiment with new ways of being. The commitment part asks us to truly engage with those experiments and put them into practice. It’s one thing to say we’ll do something, it’s another to actually do it.
it’s ok to be shameless
What we carry with us is often burdened under the weight of shame. This can make it challenging to open up and talk about our thoughts, feelings, and experiences. Anxiety, depression, and other life concerns can manifest in our intimate realms, and fear of embarrassment, judgment, or even reprisal often quashes our curiosity or hinders the way we navigate our lives. It can be challenging to find someone to talk to about the most intimate details that are affecting our physical and mental health, and I’m here to listen and offer you space free from that shame or judgment.
My journey toward becoming a therapist has been a long one, sown with valuable experiences and education, a mixture of the awful and the amazing. As such, I do not subscribe to pathologizing a person’s experiences. My passion lies with helping others safely navigate what is happening in their lives and working toward a healthy understanding of who they want to be. Curiosity is what guides my work, rather than a ‘tough love’ approach. In our sessions, you will have permission to share, question, and learn while we collaborate on revealing the most comfortable version of yourself.
As I continue grow as a therapist, I am mindful of the privileges that have been afforded to me. I am looking forward to learning about experiences, cultures, and identities different to mine and recognize that external barriers are in place for many. As such, I work within a feminist and anti-oppressive framework, and am actively engaged in social justice work. I am part of the queer community, and am sexwork-, polyam/NM-, and kink-friendly {utilizing RACK principles}.
